![]() ![]() but I don’t want to give all the goods away.Ĭompletely original plot! I figured a few things out, but other things I was oblivious to, until they were revealed. Like Chloe, she is a siren, a very minor role and yet she is very memorable. Even the minor characters stood out to me, and they were fascinating. The key to my heart is great characters and story line, and this book had it all and then some. I never in a million years would have guessed this was a debut novel. It was really just so fricking fantastic, it’s hard to find the words to describe it. Incredible characters, incredible writing, incredible plot. If you aren’t a fan of faerie books, you’ll still want to read it. ![]() If you’ve tried faerie books before, but didn’t like them, you’ll want to read this. If you are a fan of faerie books, you’ll want to read this one. I think I’ve written and then rewritten this review about a hundred times now! And I know it’s going to come across one way, and that’s just how it’s going to have to be, because I simply cannot write it any other way. ![]() ![]() ![]() The problem is it's rather sycophantic and not well-written. ![]() No One Here Gets Out Alive is "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll" and as a teenager reading this, I LOVED it. The sun-drenched Whisky-a-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, site of The Doors early triumphs The phoenix rises and bursts into flame with the blazing sun of the southern Californian, mercurial late '60s music scene as the backdrop. The author knows what his readers have come for and he gives it to them. Sugarman treats them with deference, but they are relegated to the background here too. ![]() While keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore were adept musicians, they were a mere back-up band for the wildly enigmatic, charismatic Morrison. In No One Here Gets Out Alive, Danny Sugarman has put together the comprehensive legend of Jim Morrison's life, as well as the birth and death of the band that made Morrison godlike in the eyes of millions. This is about the conduits of humanity in all its beauty and horror. In the age of flower power, the Summer of Love and an era in which a generation sought peace not war, The Doors came out of the darker corners of man's desire. ![]() ![]() If you want a light fun romance I can't recommend this one. ![]() Basically all of which is writen about competently at worst, and very well at best, but it sort of came out of left field. I mean, the summary does explain maybe *half* the book fine, but there's a lot of stuff about family relations, divorce, illness, and all that sort of stuff. That said, my main complaint is that the summary you read before buying this book is that it's not what's inside. Still, I probably would have made the MC a bit less of an idiot lol. But, she's a teen, and it was believable idiocy, so I can't exactly fault the book necessarily. The characters are fairly interesting, although occasionally I felt like banging my head on a wall because the main character was being a moron. The review that said this book was emotionally heavier than expected is greedy accurate. ![]() ![]() ![]() When Bouvard inherits a sizable fortune, the two decide to move to the countryside. Over time, the book obsessed him to the degree that he claimed to have read over 1500 books in preparation for writing it-he intended it to be his masterpiece, surpassing all of his other works. Bouvard et Pécuchet is an unfinished satirical novel by Gustave Flaubert, published in 1881 after his death in 1880.Īlthough it was conceived in 1863 as Les Deux Cloportes ("The Two Woodlice"), and partially inspired by a short story of Barthélemy Maurice ( Les Deux Greffiers, "The Two Court Clerks", which appeared in La Revue des Tribunaux in 1841 and which he may have read in 1858), Flaubert did not begin the work in earnest until 1872, at a time when financial ruin threatened. ![]() ![]() ![]() Eventually, Juneau and Miles are forced to make a choice between friendship and family.
